What is Peer Mediation?
Peer Mediation is a confidential process for resolving conflicts. Participants have the opportunity to talk through their disputes with the help of trained mediators. Peer mediators do not take sides or place blame on anyone.
Trainees should have personal qualities that will make them good mediators. These might include communication skills, the respect of their peers, self-confidence, empathy, leadership potential, willingness to receive feedback, ability to speak in front of groups,
People need to be able to communicate effectively, appreciate the consequences of their actions, generate and evaluate alternative solutions to problems, and coexist with people with whom they disagree.
Mediation or arbitration often are used in cases involving divorce, child custody, employment disputes, business disputes, and matters such as:
Contract disputes, Land use disputes, Landlord-tenant matters, Medical malpractice, Personal injury, Other matters involving civil law.
